Weekly Scrap Metal and Recycling Report By BENLEE April 20, 2026

U.S. raw steel production rose to 1.843 million tons this week. That is up 0.7% from last week and up 5.5% year to date. The capacity utilization rate was 79.8%. The 50% tariff protection continues to support output despite slow economic growth.

U.S. raw steel production dipped slightly this past week to 1.791 million tons, down 1.1% from the prior week — but remains up a healthy 5% year to date. The combination of modest economic growth and 50% steel tariff protection continues to support domestic output.
