U.S. weekly raw steel production fell to 1.83MT down .5% from last week, but up 5.8% YTD. This was on the 50% steel tariff protection and the slow growth economy.

Crude oil WTI price rose to $90.47/b., while fighting increased, as some try to restart talks. The new fighting front in the Red Sea is further hurting oil flows.

Scrap Steel #1 HMS price composite was steady at $358.33/GT on a good balance of supply and demand.

Hot-Roll Coil steel price rose to $60/cwt., $1,200/T, a 42% increase in the past 12 months. This was on the 50% steel tariff protection and tight supply.

Copper Price rose to $6.34/lb., on the tight supply in China, but some weak global demand signals.

Aluminum price was steady at $1.44/lb, $3,165/MT. This was on intensified middle East fighting that is hurting supply. Also, LME inventories are the lowest since 2022 with good demand.

U.S. 10-Year treasury note, which is a key benchmark for borrowing including mortgage rates. It rose to 4.67% an almost 18 month high as the 30-year mortgage rate hit 6.81%. Higher oil prices brings inflation which brings higher interest rates.

U.S. June sales of new single-family homes rose to 628,000 annualized, the first increase in three months. This was as interest rates are rising, but builders are offering discounts.

U.S. S&P manufacturing PMI fell to 53.8, but remaining near a 4 year high. There was easing in production growth as new order growth slowed. Military production and AI data centers are increasing as factory employment increased.

U.S. weekly initial jobless claims fell to 187,000 a nearly 60 year low. This was on the tight labor supply due to limited immigration. A lack of workers could add to inflation problems.

Wall Street’s Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 199 points to 51,947. This was on rising oil prices, higher interest rates and concerns of AI slowing.
